What is the Corfu Trail
It is a waymarked long-distance path, about 220 km long, that crosses the island from the south (Cape Arkoudilas) to the north (Cape Agia Ekaterini). Created in the early 2000s, it is marked with yellow waymarkers. It links beaches, mountains and dozens of villages, showing you a side of Corfu you never see from the car.
How many days it takes
Most people complete it in 8 to 12 days, depending on pace. Many visitors walk only selected sections as day hikes, based on where they are staying โ a great option if you don't want to commit to the whole route.
Difficulty & terrain
The difficulty is moderate: it requires no technical climbing, but there are ascents, some exposed spots and stretches on dirt track or tarmac. The toughest part is the climb up Mount Pantokrator (~906 m). You'll want proper hiking shoes โ paths can be slippery in spring or overgrown in summer.
When is the best season
Ideally spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), when the weather is cool and the landscape is lush and in bloom. In summer the heat makes long stages tiring and risky in the midday hours; if you go then, start very early.
What you'll see
The trail passes through traditional mountain villages, endless olive groves, the Korission lagoon in the south, Mount Pantokrator with panoramic views as far as Albania and Italy on clear days, secluded beaches and stunning views over Paleokastritsa and the coast opposite.
Good sections for a single day
If you're short on time, three sections stand out: the climb up Pantokrator for the views, the route around Paleokastritsa and Afionas (with a stop at Porto Timoni), and the quiet paths of the south near Lake Korission. These are easy to do as day hikes from your base.
Practical tips
Carry plenty of water, a hat, sunscreen and an offline map or GPX, as the waymarking is faded in places. Plan accommodation by section โ there are also services that transfer your luggage from one place to the next, so you can walk light. To reach section trailheads, see getting around Corfu or book a transfer.
